How to Define Community? Nanette Saylor Asks You?

I started out this week to write about Community...what is community? What defines a community? What else might you call a community?
And I thought it would be a quick blog post...What do you think?

So, rather than just write in free-form, I thought I'd go out an see what "Google" had to say!

And it's fascinating stuff...and I'm realizing I'll have lots more to report than just a few lines in a "quick" blog post.

And in the meantime, I've also realized that as the definition of "community" moves away from that of a geographic place, to that of a gathering of like-minded people, it has become very personal.

So, I'm asking you...how do you define community? What is it? How does a community behave? And what do you expect from your community or communities? Can you belong to more than one? And how do you choose?

Most importantly, what does a community need to do to keep you engaged...to keep you from leaving and searching for that next best place to hang your hat?

Share your thoughts here, OK? We'll all benefit.

And you may even connect to a kindred spirit or two while you're at it!
